Sushil Kumar Shinde will be the new Leader of the Lok Sabha


NEW DELHI: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will be the new leader of the House in the Lok Sabha taking the place of Pranab Mukherjee, who has become President.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has been appointed to the post Shinde, minister of parliamentary affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters.


71 years old, Shinde is an important leader of the Federal District Congress representing Solapur Lok Sabha elections in the state. A Dalit leader, who had served as chief minister of Maharashtra, and was a member of the State Assembly for seven terms.

Shinde, who was energy minister, moved to his home on Tuesday the ministry. He had also been governor of Andhra Pradesh.I am very grateful to the Prime Minister and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, to appoint me as leader of the House,he told PTI.


Apparently his extensive experience in four decades in politics and since his affable character, the direction of Congress might have preferred over others for the work that requires the cooperation of the opposition in business transactions on the floor.

Under the rules, the prime minister becomes the leader of the House if a member of the Lok Sabha. Otherwise, designate one member to be the leader. Singh is a member of the Rajya Sabha and therefore, who heads the House there.

Since changing to Rasthrapati Bhawan Mukherjee became imminent, there has been speculation as to who would become the new leader of the House of Representatives.
